Director - Center for Continuous Improvement & Innovation
Juan Amador has over 15 years of experience driving and teaching continuous improvement to more than 5,000 individuals in 35+ countries. At UL, Mr. Amador has helped develop more than 2,000 change agents across the globe for the organization's Language of Change initiative. He helped design UL's Global Lean Leadership program and created the Center for Continuous Improvement and Innovation. Prior to joining UL, Mr. Amador integrated and deployed lean and six sigma at Medtronic, with direct responsibility for over $100 million in benefits throughout the company’s supply chain. He is a graduate of Yale’s Executive Leadership Program and UL's Global Leadership Program from Northwestern University, and he earned a bachelor’s degree in business information systems from the University of Phoenix.
Lean Sigma Master Black Belt
ChiChung Chan is based in Hong Kong and brings more than six years’ experience in delivering lean six sigma training programs and developing lean sigma green belts and black belts. He also plays an active role in the content design of lean six sigma training programs. Prior to working in the field of continuous improvement and lean sigma, Mr. Chan held various positions in UL, gaining experience in business analysis, process reengineering and capacity planning. He obtained both his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and MBA from The University of Hong Kong.
Lean Sigma MBB
Joshua Ebert serves as lead instructor and administrator for UL’s Continuous Improvement Curriculum. He is charged with developing and mentoring instructors and maintaining the associated standard work and certification programs. For over a decade, Mr. Ebert and his team have served as coaches of global change efforts and advanced leadership engagement. He directly supports 12 centralized black and master black belts while also supporting an additional 30 black belts embedded throughout the organization. In total his team supports more than 900 green belts across the UL enterprise. Mr. Ebert graduated with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Valparaiso University.
Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt
Eric Haddon is a certified master black belt with nine years’ experience supporting process improvement in finance, field services, information technology, operations, customer service, shipping, laboratory and food service. Mr. Haddon is responsible for development and delivery of training for lean sigma green belts and black belts. Additionally, he is actively involved with implementing new approaches for engagement and leadership involvement, and with design of creative solutions such as a system to improve consistency in technical judgment. Prior to becoming a lean sigma belt, Mr. Haddon was an engineering section manager at UL. He earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering technology from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
Master Black Belt
Boris Lawryshyn is a passionate communicator, teacher and mentor. In addition to two decades of experience in product safety management, first with a major global leader in home audio & video and broadcast communications equipment, then with Underwriters Laboratories in Toronto, Mr. Lawryshyn has progressed in a number of continuous improvement roles prior to achieving the role of lean sigma master black belt. When not teaching or developing lean sigma content he is focused on mentoring kaizen initiatives and green belt projects as well as coaching individuals along their learning paths. He is also involved with process analysis and reporting. Mr. Lawryshyn earned a bachelor of technology degree in electrical engineering from Ryerson University and a doctorate in religions studies.
Val Liberman has more than 12 years’ experience deploying continuous improvement methodologies in manufacturing and transactional environments globally. As the first certified master black belt (MBB) at UL, Mr. Liberman played an integral role in UL’s transformation, training hundreds of green belts and black belts and executing projects resulting in a 50% improvement in customer timeliness and in twice the number of customers promoting UL services. Mr. Liberman is passionate about helping customers unleash their true potential through the development of their leaders. He earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in material science and engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology.
Lean Sigma Master Belt, Lean Sigma Operation
Alberto Massacesi is based in Milan, Italy and currently leads the Internal UL Global Continuous Improvement Team. As a lean sigma belt, he has led and participated in many global initiatives that have had profound impact on UL's transformation over the past nine years. One of UL’s original change agents, Mr. Massacesi has trained and mentored hundreds of UL employees all around the world. Previously, he was a manager of engineering and follow-up service, and before joining UL, Mr. Massacesi served as the R&D manager at Elica Group, as well as a laboratory manager at several other companies. He earned a master’s degree in electronic engineering from Università Politecnica delle Marche in Ancona, Italy.
Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt
Debra Modra has over 20 years’ experience in quality improvement and lean six sigma applications in medical laboratories, semiconductor, chemical, transactional and intellectual property environments. Ms. Modra currently works as a certified master black belt at UL. She earned a bachelor’s degree in medical technology from the University of Wisconsin Steven’s Point, a master’s degree in chemistry from Portland State University and a master’s degree in engineering management from Washington State University Vancouver.
Head - Quality, Emerging Markets - Lean Sigma Master Black Belt
V Ravichander has more than 17 years’ experience deploying quality and continuous improvement culture in production operations, quality assurance, lean manufacturing, value engineering and project management to cross-functional teams across more than five countries. Mr. Ravichander is the quality assurance manager for Emerging Markets at UL. He played an integral role in conceptualizing the first UL lean laboratory in Bangalore, India incorporating various lean principles, which became a Lean Centre for Excellence for the entire organization. He now mentors UL staff in the areas of consulting and advisory, and has developed an extremely robust customer base with several high profile UL client brands. Mr. Ravichander earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from R.V. College of Engineering in Bangalore, India, and a master’s degree in technological operations from BITS in Pilani, India.
